Limited Overs World Cup 1999 Edition
Limited Overs World Cup 1999 Edition
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF GAME
˜Limited Overs" is a replay simulation of English domestic one day cricket the CGU National league, the Benson & Hedges Cup and the Natwest Bank Trophy. A typical 40 overs match takes about one hour to replay - rather less than half the time required using the International Cricket system, but considerably longer than the County Championship format.
Individual players are rated for batting (by means of a batting card Number plus Personal Factors) and where appropriate for bowling (via a Strike Value (SV) and Economy Factor ) or wicket keeping ( a simple 0 (low) 3 (high) rating ). Weather and Pitch conditions are determined before the start of a match, either nationally or for a single venue, and can alter during the game. Each batsman can elect to use one of the four Batting Modes (Defensive to Hitting Out) and this choice of Mode determines how many balls in each over are actually replayed: from 2 for Defensive to all 6 for Hitting Out. The Mode chosen also modifies the bowler's SV when a CHANCE occurs, this SV also being adjusted in certain circumstances by the Weather, Pitch Condition, use of the New Ball and current form of the batsman.
Four dice are rolled for each ball replayed. The Yellow die determines if the delivery is an automatic dot ball, if it is not the other three come into play. The majority (83.33%) of results are taken from the appropriate Batting Card, the total of the two white dice converting directly to the number of runs scored off the delivery, or some other result. The balance of results (16.67%) are taken from the appropriate Bowling Card, this will often bring into play the particular bowler's Economy Factor or will produce a CHANCE for a bowler favoured by the Pitch and/or weather conditions.
Batsmen will find themselves more vulnerable before they ˜get their eye in" and the riskier the Batting mode chosen, while bowlers get an increase in SV when they take a wicket and a reduction when a catch is dropped off their bowling.
Each of the fifty Batting Cards produces a different batting average, ranging from 6.4 to 82. The scoring Rate per Over also varies and the Player Stats have been designed with the aim of recreating the players' correct average and as far as possible his style of play. This is also influenced by his Personal Factors. The main objective of the game is to provide a quick playing game with accurate results and stats. The International Cricket game provides more personality for the players than is possible here.
