In the year that the first women’s Test Match was played at Lords ‘Women’s T20 World Cup 2026’ (henceforward ‘WT20’ ) was designed as a celebration of women’s sport. Over the past two decades or so women’s sport has blossomed as more television time has been devoted to it and real-life crowds have substantially increased both for soccer and cricket. All matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup were televised and played out mainly to full houses at the various grounds around the country.
Pre-tournament favourites Australia justified that tag by winning all their Group matches, a feat equalled by England in Group 2 who they met and decisively defeated in the final, but not before much joyous and exciting cricket had been enjoyed by large sell-out crowds at a variety of venues.
With twelve competing nations split into two Groups of six using a round-robin format 30 matches were played in the Group stages, with the winner of Group 1 playing the runner-up in Group 2 in the semi-finals and the winner of Group 2 meeting the second-placed nation in Group 1 in the other semi. The Final was played before a full house at Lord’s. Watching so many matches over a comparatively short period of time ensured that the essence of this type of cricket was absorbed and the nuances understood and enabled them, hopefully. to be re-created in this simulation.
Whilst the design is based on the specific tournament experienced gamers will no doubt be able to see ways of adapting the design to the men’s T20 and even to The Hundred competitions, if so minded.
That would involve new Batting Charts and maybe revisions to some of the other charts used in ‘WT20’. Good luck with that.
